Forklift Operation Course

Descrição / Objetivos
The Forklift Driving Course aims to ensure that trainees are qualified to operate front-fork forklifts, in compliance with general driving rules and in strict observance of the safety standards applicable to their operation and use.
This training meets the requirements of Article 32(1) of Decree-Law No. 50/2005 of 25 February, which states that “self-propelled work equipment may only be operated by duly qualified workers.”
At the end of the Forklift Driving Course, the trainees should be able to:
- Identify different types of workplace accidents involving forklifts;
- Understand the consequences of accidents for both the worker and the employer;
- Identify hazards, risks and consequences associated with the role;
- Recognise applicable legislation, standards and requirements for forklift operation;
- Identify load-handling techniques that prevent musculoskeletal injuries;
- Operate and drive forklifts safely.

Destinatários
Target Audience
Operators/drivers who currently operate or intend to operate (conventional) front-fork forklifts.
The course is intended for English/French speakers.

Pré-Requisitos
Prerequisites
Participants must hold a valid driving licence or at least have experience in driving a motorised vehicle.
If in possession of safety footwear, participants should bring it for the practical component.
Conteúdos
Course Contents
Part 1 (morning) – Theoretical:
- Awareness training on load handling using forklifts and other load-handling equipment;
- General principles of occupational safety;
- Types of equipment and correct use;
- Operation of load-handling machinery;
- Risk identification and accident prevention;
- Forklift handling techniques;
- Load capacity charts and safety signage;
- Inspection and maintenance procedures;
- Safety and traffic signage;
- Procedures in the event of forklift-related accidents.
Part 2 (afternoon) – Practical:
- Practical driving exercises with front-fork forklifts, including loading, unloading, lifting, manoeuvring and parking operations;
- Theoretical and practical assessment exercises.

Porto Region:
Theoretical and practical training (morning and afternoon) – Avenida Vasco da Gama, 1410 | 4430-247 Vila Nova de Gaia (Toyota Caetano Portugal – Industrial Equipment Division premises), or another location to be confirmed prior to the course.
Lisbon Region:
Theoretical and practical training (morning and afternoon) – EN3 / Rua da Malaposta, 4 | 2580-596 Carregado (Toyota Caetano Portugal – Industrial Equipment Division premises), or another location to be confirmed prior to the course.
Certification: Upon completion of the assessment process and successful conclusion of the course*, a Professional Training Certificate will be issued through the Training Offer Information and Management System (SIGO), in accordance with Ordinance No. 474/2010 of 8 July. The certificate will be associated with the trainee’s Qualifica Passport – Individual Skills Record.
No licence or card is issued, as these have no legal validity.
* Certificate issuance is subject to:
- Attendance of at least 90% of the total course duration;
- Achieving a minimum score of 50% in both the theoretical and practical assessments.
The final grade shown on the certificate is composed of:
- Qualitative Assessment (20%)
- Theoretical Assessment (32%)
- Practical Assessment (48%).
Inter-company Training: Price per participant. The number of participants is limited. Registrations are accepted in order of receipt, once duly completed and paid for.
In-company Training: Knowit provides this training for groups of trainees from the same company, tailored to group size, equipment and type of load handled.
Cancellation or Withdrawal Conditions:
Registration may be cancelled provided that written notice is sent to Knowit up to 5 working days before the start of the course. After this deadline, cancellation, non-attendance or withdrawal will result in forfeiture of the registration fee.
In the event of cancellation due to reasons attributable to Knowit, the full registration fee will be refunded.
